Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted his side did not play to their potential in their 1-1 draw with West Ham at the London Stadium.
Klopp's Reds had the chance to restore their five-point advantage ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, however Michail Antonio's equaliser cancelled out Sadio Mane's opener to force the sides to share the points.
Liverpool had their chances to steal it in the second half, however they couldn't take them, leaving Klopp to reflect on a frustrating night at the office - even if he thought the result was a fair reflection of how the game went.
"We had good moments, scored a goal that was offside but I think the ref (Kevin Friend) knew at half-time and you saw there were a lot of strange situations - not decisive, just rhythm breakers... 50-50s, 60-40s, free-kicks for the other team.
"If I make a big mistake in the first half, as a human being I don't want to open the gap more."
Klopp revealed he had spoken to Friend, adding: "I was really calm... it's nothing serious."
The Liverpool chief tinkered with his line-up slightly, which he did admit could have played a part in their off-colour performance, but refused to pin the blame on that alone.
He continued: "We had to change three positions, we trained a lot but we didn't get taller with the changes.
"They are really strong. The goal they scored - we knew about the routine but they're smart, really good."
For West Ham, it was a good return to form for them as they picked up their first point since their win over Arsenal on January 12.
Manuel Pellegrini's side kicked off January in positive fashion after a wobbly month that saw them lose twice in the league as well as get knocked out of the FA Cup by lower league opposition AFC Wimbledon.
Hammers midfielder Mark Noble said: "January was a bad month, after beating Arsenal, going out of the (FA) Cup and losing two games.
"So to perform as we did after three defeats, not just to get the point, but the way we played... I thought we deserved to win.
"Liverpool are a fantastic team but I thought we defended fantastically well. They've got better players all over the park, so you have to defend well and keep your shape.
"But we scared them and you've got to do that against top teams. I'm just gutted we didn't come away with three points."
Noble added: "We kept it so tight and knew if we did that, with the players we've got on the wings we can counter - and that's what we've done."
The midfielder was frustrated the Reds' goal was allowed to stand, saying: "Their goal was about a metre offside. I know it's difficult for officials but it's hard enough keeping them out against Liverpool. When they're offside it's disappointing.
"All in all they're probably the best team in the league at the minute."
