Buffalo Bills: What version of Vontae Davis will we see?

This is still taking some getting used to, but the Buffalo Bills have made another shrewd roster move. As reported by WGR 550‘s Joe DiBiase, Vontae Davis has been signed to a one-year deal.
Many believe Davis’ signing signals the end of fellow cornerback E.J. Gaines‘ tenure in Western New York. Regardless, the Bills look well positioned with a secondary that includes Tre’Davious White, Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer.
The only real concern relating to Davis, is to wonder which version of him fans will see in 2018? Will it be the one who was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2015, or the version which struggled in each of the two past seasons?

In fairness to the 2009 first round draft pick, his performance was impacted in 2017 by a groin strain. After appearing in just five games, he decided to have season-ending surgery, hence why the Indianapolis Colts released him.
Essentially, Davis will be out to prove himself, as per only signing a one-year deal. Not that teams don’t still rate him, with the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins all reportedly meeting him before he settled on the Bills.
At the very least, the Bills are getting an experience player who should provide invaluable depth and leadership for the secondary. However, if the Washington, D.C. native is fully recovered from groin surgery, they could truly reap the benefits.
Davis has played 120 games in nine seasons, including 112 starts. (He also has six playoff appearances.) His list of achievements includes 22 interceptions, 106 pass defenses and 356 tackles.
