LIVERPOOL lost Emre Can to Juventus because the midfielder wanted to earn more money.
That is the belief of former Old Lady defender Jurgen Kohler, who says the Germany international was
a good signing for his former side.
Can ran down his Liverpool contract last season amid Anfield chiefs’ attempts to get him to extend his stay beyond four years.
The 24-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year deal with Juventus in June having seen the Italian giants win their seventh Serie A title on the bounce.
Can is on around £144,000 a week for the first two seasons of his contract, with his salary set to increase after that.
Kohler reckons money was a decisive factor in Can deciding to call time on his Liverpool career.
"Sporting-wise, yes [it was the right move]," Kohler told German outlet Sport1.
"The new situation is very interesting for him, although he had good games and developed well at Liverpool.
"He'll earn more in Turin than he did with the Reds, which of course was a reason for the change.
"Any players who say otherwise are not telling the truth.
"At the time, I left Bayern Munich because I could earn more money.
"The fact that I was able to experience a picture-book career with Juve and thus achieved a great standing in Germany was unpredictable.
"Defensive players are not like sand in the sea. There are only a few really good ones.
