Liverpool 'tell What Barcelona must pay to sign Philippe Coutinho in January

Barcelona have been told only £135million will get them near Philippe Coutinho in January, according to reports in Spain.

Los Cules are continuing their pursuit of the Anfield star, with Coutinho still their No.1 target to replace Andres Iniesta, the club captain now in the twilight of his career.

Barca chiefs saw three bids rejected during the summer transfer window, all of which were heavily-tailored around potential add-ons.

The Reds angrily rejected all three of the offers - the last of which was for a potential £119million - despite Coutinho handing in a transfer request.

However, Catalan interest in the ex-Inter Milan star hasn’t gone away and according to Mundo Deportivo, intermediaries for the club held talks with Coutinho’s representative Kia Joorabchian in London on Monday.

Joorabchian, it’s claimed, is working as a go-between between the two clubs, and has told Barcelona that Liverpool would be willing to sell for a fee totalling £135million in January.

Nonetheless, Barcelona are said to be continuing their tact of offering a fee based heavily on incentives - but are also fearful of losing out completely if they don’t get a deal done in January.

Coutinho has scored four times for Liverpool since knuckling back down to life at Anfield following the close of the transfer window.

Yet, Barcelona aren’t the only side reportedly eyeing the Reds’ No.10.
